# Billing

> What an API call costs.

Calls made through the API are billed exactly like calls started from the dashboard:

* **Per connected minute**, at your plan's per-minute rate, in 30-second pulses. See [telleo.ai/pricing](https://telleo.ai/pricing/).
* Calls that **do not connect** (`no_answer`, `busy`, `failed`, `canceled`, `expired`) are not billed.
* The **outcome** (summary, answers, rating, transcript) is included at no extra cost.
* **Test calls** (`"test": true`) are free and work even before your first top-up.
* API requests themselves are free.

Your balance is checked before each call. When it runs out, new calls get `402 insufficient_credits`, and calls already queued wait until you top up. Usage and invoices are in the dashboard under billing.
